Sorbet is a frozen dessert that you can make from water sweetened with fruit juice or pureed fresh fruit.
- Mix one cup of water with two cups of sugar in a medium saucepan
- Bring this mixture to a boil on the stove making sure that all the sugar crystals dissolve in the water.
- When the water is clear, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool.
- Combine two cups of the fruit juice or pureed fresh fruit with the sugared water mixture
- Place the mixture in the freezer and stir it at regular intervals to make sure it doesn’t freeze into large clumps of ice crystals.
Hint 1: If you want your sorbet to be soft, take it out of the freezer for a few minutes before you plan to serve it.
Hint 2: You can add a small amount (1 Tbsp) of spirit alcohol like vodka or rum. The alcohol won’t freeze, so it will give the sorbet a smoother, less grainy texture, and your sorbet won’t turn into a chunk of fruit-flavored ice.
