Catering for Kids Parties | Party Food

Your Child's birthday party is coming up and you have absolutely no idea what to serve. You want something that'll look impressive and be just as tasty! Well don't worry, it is not too difficult, just remember that children are more interested in having fun and being entertained rather than focusing on your gourmet creations! Often, the simplest foods go down the best.

You want to serve food that children can easily eat with their hands. A good idea is to serve food in bowls, without any paper wrappers so kids don't have to unwrap anything (and less mess for you!). Cut food into manageable bite-size pieces

Although I am sure you'll make tasty goodies, try and make them look nice too. Children are drawn to foods that look interesting, either by colour, shape or a mixture of the two, so try and pay extra attention to presentation! Get creative and place veggies on mini pizzas to make fun faces, serve jelly in scoured out orange halves, stick smarties to marshmallows with icing.

Although it is simple and easy to serve a lot of sweets and high fat food, it is important that you balance things by serving healthy foods as well. Some children may even prefer the savoury foods (especially if they are creatively presented). Avoid serving food that could be a problem for children with allergies, these include foods with nuts in, tartrazine and even dairy.

Serve a variety of cooldrinks. Some parents don't like their children drinking fizzy drinks so also include diluted fruit juices, made-up juices, and even ice-lollies.

Planning and preparing the food for your child's party can actually be really fun and a chance for you to get creative. Here are some ideas for sweet foods and for savoury foods
